Knitting

About Your Instructor - Abby Hill
I’ve been casually knitting for over 20 years, making everything from dishcloths and scarves to gloves, hats, and socks. But my knitting truly became a passion when I made my first sweater. I had expected to feel overwhelmed by such a large project, but instead I became hooked. Each sweater has introduced me to a new technique, and I’ve learned that there is always something
fresh and exciting to discover in knitting.

For me, knitting is more than just making things with yarn, it’s a form of self-care. Studies suggest that engaging in crafts like knitting can help support memory and healthy aging by keeping the mind active and engaged over time. The tactile experience of working with yarn, combined with the structured process of completing a project, has a calming effect that helps regulate emotions and provides an outlet for excess energy. Research also shows that knitting is good for ADHD and anxiety, the repetitive, bilateral movements stimulate the brain, increase dopamine levels, and strengthen focus, much like a fidget toy.

Knitting has been a rewarding creative journey for me, and I’m passionate about helping others find the same joy, confidence, and peace in the craft. I also value the sustainability that comes with making your own clothing by choosing quality materials, creating pieces that last, and stepping away from the cycle of fast fashion. Each handmade garment is not only a personal
expression but also a conscious choice to reduce waste and live more mindfully. My hope is to inspire others to see knitting as both a creative outlet and a way to make a positive impact on the world around us.
